Bahia Honda Slam Florida Sportsman member: DogDoc After a late night trip yesterday, we thought the best way to catch the midday outgoing tide while the winds allowed was to run up to Bahia Honda again. David and I bucked the east wind to reach the protection of the bridge, but found little relief from the wind and waves when we got there. The wind direction quartered the current, augmenting the waves and making it hard to keep baits where they needed to be. Weeds were also a bigger problem than last week. We had several hits and drag pulls before the first hookup, but that ended up being a nice pound tarpon. A few minutes later another hit but no hookup, then a bait down deep was taken. The fish ran long but stayed deep, and when we caught up with it we were pleasantly surprised that it was a pound permit.
Let’s Talk Hookup
These two styles of spoons continually produce healthy numbers of whitefish and lake trout. Available in a smooth finish, hammered design and gold, silver or “half and half” combination, these spoons are simple to use and produce big fish. When fishing for whitefish, stir up the bottom, rest the spoon and jig it off bottom. Try shorter jigs to entice finicky biters. In some instances, fish will hit the spoon as its fluttering to its original position, ensure your line is tight as the spoon flutters down so you can feel the hit when the fish bites.
Jul 02, · I know a legion of people that are pro Hook Up Bait. I see their reports and they do really work. It’s just our personal budgets that’s makes it worth paying for them.
Some anglers are hitting the jackpot and getting easy limits while others are struggling to find a few bites and not seeing much happening around them. There are a lot of different presentations that will produce right now and some are better suited to certain situations than others. Drifting is the most applicable and both coho and chinook will readily take roe, Jensen eggs, or colorado blades especially at first light, while chum favour jigs. Twitching jigs can also be fun in slower water or slack water where fish are stacking.
Some fish are still moving through however most of the fish are spooked at this point. It is very hard to entice them to bite in this conditions. Twitching jigs is also a viable method, but it is important to keep the movement of the jig subtle to not spook the fish. It is quite important to trigger the fish with these methods and it is much like teasing a cat to attack. Release all wild coho and any steelhead you encounter.
This past week saw favourable conditions throughout the system. Coho fishing has continued to remain steady with anglers finding success on both gear and flies. With the water still not extremely low, one of my favourite lures is the K-Wobbler:

Nadine moments after catching one of her 40 crappie while using one of James Ketchum’s techniques! You can feel the thrill of hauling in huge crappies more often than ever. Ever dreamed of breaking the local crappie record? I am so impressed with the “superstar” lineup of crappie fishermen you’ve put together! I’ve only been crappie fishing a short time, and I consider myself a rookie.
If I can catch a crappie of this size with the information, I’m convinced almost anyone can.

June Fishing Report Wednesday, May 31, 8: First of all, before you leave out on any fishing or boating adventure in the summer, make sure you pack plenty of water. Secondly, make sure you drink plenty of water. Lastly, your skin needs protection so I encourage you to wear appropriate clothing to battle the sun. Believe it or not, I stay much cooler in long sleeve fishing shirts and pants and often wear a face shield to keep the sun off of my face and neck it also doubles as insect protection.
The trout have been scattered throughout the grass near potholes, bayou and creek mouths, and along the edges of sandbars. The bigger trout seem to be located in feet of water in areas that are mostly sand with small scattered patches of thick grass. The slot fish tend to hold closer to thick grassy flats in depths of feet. I have been using spoons, baits that have a topwater walking action, and a variety of soft plastics on weighted jig heads for the fish holding in deeper water.

The Caroline returned with 18 ling cod and limits of rockfish for 13 anglers while fishing local waters. They have some limited room in the upcoming week. While there were a few kings caught here and there last week, salmon fishing remained somewhat slow according to Todd Fraser from Bayside Marine. One thing always stays the same for fishing in the Monterey Bay and that is, every year is different.
Some are slow for certain species while other years are very productive. It is looking to be one of those years for halibut a good one. Dozens of shaker-size halibut in calm waters have been caught near shore at wharf and on the inside corner near New Brighton Beach. Pier anglers have been catching and releasing one after the other from the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf. Once in a while, a legal -sized fish comes over the rail in the 22 inch range. Bring a round ring crab net on a long rope for securing the fish and lifting to the wharf.
Or, make friends with one of the old guys there who has a ring net.
Current Fishing report Jan 20, , 7: The fish are concentrated directly out front of the Bay and you start trolling immediately and the fish are biting. It might be a sailfish or a dorado or even both at the same time or a double hookup of the same fish. It’s fast action fishing and perfect for light tackle and flyfishing anglers. Many of the boats are experiencing more than a dozen strikes per day and the fish are more than cooperative.
